1. Writer's building

Background History: The official secretariat building of the state government of West Bengal in Kolkata. Back 1777, designed by Thomas Lyon. Writer's building is originally served as the principal administrative office for writers junior, clerks of the British East India Company.

Spooky Anecdote: In writer's there are many huge and vacant rooms inside the building unused. Even Watchmen and security staff refuse to do night shifts. 

Haunting Events: Watchmen and security staff have reported serial disturbances on the first floor of block five, so much so that none of the security staff will go there alone at night. Also workers hear heavy footsteps.

2. National Library

Background History: National Library is India's largest library by volume and public record. It is under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is said and certitude that Lady Metcalfe, the Governor's wife, was fond of books and a cleanliness freak. This library with a collection in excess of 2.2 million books and records, it is the largest in the country. If you are the book lover you must not be missed National library. 

Spooky Anecdote: Security staff and students heard the footsteps of Lady Metcalfe and have seen fade grey shadows on the wall.

Haunting Events: In 2010, a newspaper report added to the spookiness of the building. There is a mysterious room on the ground floor of the 250 year old building that went unsighted for decades. The chamber did not have any door or even a secret door to get in which added to what lies inside it.

3. Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station

Background History: Rabindra Sarobar is one of the busiest and  largest metro stations in South Kolkata. Many people committed suicide in this metro station. 

Spooky Anecdote: Many people commit suicide here and their souls roam around this metro station. People says that, the souls of suicidal people stay in this metro station because they don't find peace.

Haunting Events: According to late-night passengers, they often see shadows and hear weird noises that have no explanation. It is said that all those who committed suicide at the station or jumped off a moving train. They try to recreate the same situation.

4. Park Street Cemetery

Background History: South Park Street Cemetery is oldest graveyards of Kolkata, established in 1767. In this cemetery there is 2000 graves or tombs. The graves are a mix of gothic and the rich flavour of the Indo-Saracenic style.  Most of the tombs British soldiers.

Spooky Anecdote: When we hear the name of the grave place, we feel like goosebumps. The weather here is extremely cold which makes the whole thing even more spooky. 

Haunting Events: Some friends went to visit the cemetery together. There one friend was suddenly dizzy and the other friend was breathlessness. It was pretty normal, until they saw some photos taken from there they saw some creepy shadows. Then they investigate the matter further and later find out that there have been other similar incidents with other people. Well, who's ready to take chances with that.

5. Wipro Office

Background History: Wipro Office is located in the Salt Lake area. The office is indictment built on a graveyard. That's why such spooky things happen. 

Spooky Anecdote: Many people who work night shifts and who work as night guards have complained of seeing various light shadows moving and hears footsteps at night.

Haunting Events: Employees claim to have heard noises of things falling when they use the lift or the staircase to the upper floors. The security guards complain of hearing noises all night while they are on duty. In wipro they don't use the third floor of tower three. Because a lot of ghostly things happen there.

6. Nimtala Ghat

Background History: Nimtala Crematorium is the oldest cremation ground in the city, which is located in central Kolkata. The first building of this burning ghat came up in 1717.

Spooky Anecdote: On the nights of Kali Puja, the Aghoris visit this place and feed on the remains of those who have been cremated and are said to stimulate paranormal forces. It is one of the most haunted places in Kolkata.

Haunting Events: Many people try to wake ghosts during the new moon of Kali Puja, which is why residents of the neighborhood often say they don't stay out late at night. Also at other times sounds of shouting, footsteps are heard.

7. The Royal Calcutta Turf Club

Background History: The Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) is a horse racing formation which was founded in 1847 in Calcutta. Horse events and sports were initially organised for the British cavalry at Akra before they were moved to the Maidan. George Williams a complete race freak person. His passion, desire and dreams of winning the bet revolved around a snow white horse named 'Pride'; who was the champion of all tracks. With time, Pride grew old and weak. One day she lost a derby and the next day she was found dead on the tracks itself.

Spooky Anecdote: When people walk past the Royal Calcutta Turf Club they think it is an ordinary ground but it has some hidden history. Many believe that George Williams still races with his favorite horse 'Pride'.

Haunting Events: One foggy saturday nights at the Kolkata Race Course are alarming and spooky. People and maintenance staff relate foggy patches with "William Saheb ki Sada Ghora".

8. Putulbari

Background History: Putulbari is a century old house, almost in its ruins. People say, who tortured and exploited women to a great extent. Consider this one of the most haunted places in the world.

Spooky Anecdote: Many people say that the sound of women crying and her screams can be heard from this Putulbari.

Haunting Events: When someone goes to explore the putulbari, something happens to them. One hears a woman calling out to him or screaming.

9. Hastings House

Background History: Hastings is located in central Kolkata, Maidan and the Hooghly River. The area named after Warren Hastings, Warren was the first Governor-General of Bengal 1772 to 1785. 

Spooky Anecdote: Currently hastings house  is a well known women's college. The students of the college have often claimed to have seen a person like a light wash, they think he is Warren Hastings, riding on a horse and apparently searching for something. So many people said that, Hastings towards the later years of his life was extremely depressed and misery.

Haunting Events: Many a time some ghostly things happened to the college students there, like seeing someone suddenly and screaming.

10. Howrah Bridge

Background History: The Howrah Bridge is a balanced cantilever bridge over the Hooghly River. The bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a old bridge at the same location linking the cities of Howrah and Kolkata.

Spooky Anecdote: It is believed that many people there have committed suicide because their souls have not yet found peace. For that they are still roaming there.

Haunting Events: Local residents or anyone who comes to Howrah Bridge for a visit, some ghostly things happen to them at night.  Suddenly saw a shadow go away.
